WCWA Union Civilians

During the Civil War there were many women and children who followed their sweethearts, husbands, fathers and other family members to war. Some did this so they were close to there loved ones and could take care of them if they were injured. Others were refugees and followed the army  because they lost everything including their homes due to the war. During this time the women would take on roles of laundresses, cooks, nurses, hospital matron or as a "mother" to all by taking care of the cooking, laundry or cleaning for one or more companies of soldiers.

The WCWA Union civilians are made up of women, children and men who want to portray a civilian part in the Civil War. We set up our camp by the Union Army camp. We participate in living history from Saturday morning until the time we pack up to go home to our modern life. Cooking, sleeping in tents, wearing period clothing, shopping in sutleries, having period dances, teas, and school for the children are all just a part of what we do over the course of an event weekend.
